The BYD Dolphin and BYD Seal received the highest safety score in the Euro NCAP assessment, a testing program that operates similarly to the Latin NCAP in Europe only. The two models received 5 stars (the maximum score) in crash tests and safety features, demonstrating good competitiveness with traditional brands, according to the European body. In addition to them, the electric Chinese Xpeng P7 was also rated with maximum points.
In the three Chinese models, the assessment body rated the protection zones for adults and children in the event of a collision particularly high in both the BYD and Xpeng models. In addition, Euro NCAP also highlighted that they are all well equipped with a wide range of safety technologies, including lane and speed assist. Another point rated by the agency is the child presence detection system, and of the three Chinese ones, only the XPENG P7 does not have this feature.
Speaking especially about crash tests, the best-selling electric car BYD Dolphin in Brazil showed very positive results. In the frontal impact test, knee and femur protection was good for the driver and passenger, while chest protection for the driver was classified as poor. On the other hand, all-important body protection was good or adequate for both the front passenger and the driver. The BYD Dolphin cabin also showed good stability and low impact deformation.
As you can see in the video, in the rigid barrier test, protection of all critical body areas was good or adequate for the driver and rear seat passenger. In the side barrier test, the protection of all important areas of the body was good, and the Dolphin received the maximum score in this part of the evaluation. In the stronger side impact against the pole, protection was good or adequate for all important parts of the body. In addition, the compact electric vehicle showed good characteristics in protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.
Completion of the test
With the highest safety scores, the BYD Dolphin completed the test with 89% in the protection of adult passengers, 87% in the protection of children and 85% in the protection of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. In terms of safety assistance resources, the electric vehicle has reached 79% utilization.
