Legislator Alejandro Sotoformer Congress president, assured that the executive branch did not inform the parliament about the nose surgery that the president underwent In Bolwart.
We remind you that the former chairman of the Council of Ministers Alberto Atarolaconfirmed to the Oversight Commission that the president underwent rhinoplasty because of “respiratory problems.” Although the exact date was not given, journalistic investigation indicates that it was between June and July 2023.
With that in mind, Soto stressed that Congress had not been informed of the president’s absence from office.
“The Congress of the Republic was not aware of any of these actions of the President. (…) There were no official reports,” he said on Canal N.
A congressman from Alianza Para el Progreso questioned the fact that former Prime Minister Atarola did not inform the president of the operation until a year later.
“What Atarola is saying is not 100% credible; it fills me with doubts because he is doing it after a year. Those who should clarify the issue are those in Government House,” he noted.
In this sense, he felt that, if true, Atarola “appears to be an accomplice”. “He, as prime minister, should have informed Congress of the alleged temporary incapacity, because surgery, whether minor or major, means a period of rest,” he said.
