Empathy is the essence of human rights, says Silvio Almeida

The speech took place on International Human Rights Day. The date is celebrated this Sunday (10).

They remember the protection of children and adolescents, people with disabilities and the homeless population. In his speech, Almeida also mentioned his efforts on behalf of the elderly, the incarcerated, LGBTQIA+ and victims of religious violence.

Repair works related to the dictatorship are also mentioned. Almeida mentioned the initiatives related to “memory, truth and justice” developed by the ministry.

You know when we look at a person who is suffering, experiencing some humiliation or deprivation, and we feel discomfort, suffering? The name for this is empathy. I would say that this is the essence of human rights: the ability to care and the desire to care for people.
