General Anesthesia, Mario Ghibellini | OPINION

Surgical intervention, which, according to all indications, the president underwent last year In Bolwart invites to reflections of a different nature.

On the one hand, she is bringing back the image of a president more concerned with jewelry than with matters of state that she projected a few months ago in the wake of “Rolexgate.” On the other hand, it makes us wonder about the motives that may exist behind the desire to specifically correct one’s nose: an appendage whose size the literature associates with difficulties in telling the truth. And finally, it also raises some concerns about the possibility of informing citizens about what is happening at the height of power. If some official from the time when the lady was in the operating room had not left the palace environment indignant, we would never have known about the episode.

None of these issues, however, has caused as much of a stir as what is happening these days in Congress and prosecutors over the possibility that the executive was given general anesthesia for the aforementioned surgery. That is, she would be put into such a deep sleep that her obvious abilities to treat emergencies inherent to the position she holds would be completely deactivated for an indefinite period of time. According to more than one legal expert, our legal system dictates that without vice presidents, Mrs. Baluarte He should have left the reins of the Executive and been the head of the Legislature until he came to his senses. But this did not happen, and now in the Hall of Lost Steps they are talking about constitutional violations; and, in the Ministry of the Public, of the alleged crime of abdication. A situation that brings back the old cliché about the presidential vacancy.

– Beets and apples –

Frankly, we doubt that the initiatives launched for this purpose will succeed. The occasion, however, is favorable for discussing the relevance of constitutional provisions that prohibit the involuntary induction of sleep of whoever is the head of state in our country, or, for that matter, any of our political authorities. In principle, of course, one would be alarmed by the lack of attention to the needs of those of us who live in this wonderful land of the sun. But a second consideration of the problem may lead us to a different conclusion.

About a month ago, Argentine journalist and writer Andres Oppenheimer, in an interview he gave during a visit to our country, said that Peru grows at night “when politicians are sleeping.” An observation that may seem ironic, but in which there is a great deal of truth. It is enough to look at the daily decisions of the president, her ministers or congressmen – the appointment of the current board of directors of Petro-Perú, the extension of the state of emergency as a false remedy to the rise of crime in Lima, the extension of the validity of Reinfo – to see that, as far as they are concerned, the vigilance is not is a state that favors us.

How much better off we would be if, as in the fairy tales, a jab from a haunted spinning wheel or a bite from a toxic apple (perhaps courtesy of Kali Varma) could seamlessly propel them into a rapid phase of indefinite duration! The only dream of the righteous possible among us would actually be through general anesthesia among those who control our random destinies… Poor Dr. Mario Cabani is being brutally interrogated these days, but as far as we’re concerned they should give him the Order of the Sun.
