BOISE, Idaho — Idaho’s unemployment rate rose to 3% in August from 2.8% in July and was at or above 3% for the first time since November 2020, according to the Idaho Department of Labor.
Total employment in Idaho increased by 121 to 938,190. However, unemployment increased by 1,753 people (6.4%), leaving a total of 28,955 people without work.
The number of workers in Idaho increased by 1,874 (0.2%) in August, bringing the total number of workers to 967,145. Idaho’s labor force consists of people over the age of 16 who are working or looking for work. In August, 62.4% remained at work.
Idaho’s nonfarm labor force grew by 1,900 in August, bringing the total to 854,600. The private education services sector posted the largest increase of 3%, followed by construction, federal government, local government, other services, and professional and business services, which grew from 0.6% to 0.9%.
The number of jobs fell in August: durable goods manufacturing (-1.2%), financial activities (-1%), transportation, warehousing and utilities (-0.9%) and government (-0.6%) .
In August last year, it was 2.8 percent. During the same time, the workforce increased by 1.4%, which corresponds to 13,092 people.
In August, unemployment in the country rose to 3.8% from 3.5% in July. Also, unemployment increased by 514,000 people and amounted to 6.4 million unemployed.
