Jobless claims in Ohio fell for the fifth week in a row

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jobless claims continued to fall in Ohio last week.

Ohioans filed 7,159 initial traditional jobless claims last week, down 3,376 from the previous week and 16,735 below an eight-week high of 23,894, the Ohio Department of Jobs and Families reported Thursday.

It was the fifth week in a row that initial traditional jobless claims fell.

State residents also filed 35,144 continuing traditional jobless claims for the week of Sept. 3-9, down 1,257 from the previous week.

Of the initial jobless claims filed, 2,572 were flagged for more stringent identity verification to ensure they were not fraudulent.

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 3.3% in July. The unemployment rate in the country was 3.5%. The employment rate in Ohio was 62.1% in July. The employment rate in the country was 62.6%.
