Doctors from the National Hospital Hipolito Unanue successfully removed a 10-kilogram tumor lodged in the abdominal cavity of a 61-year-old woman.

According to the doctors, the patient entered the medical institution with a noticeably swollen abdomen – the result of education that has been growing for the past five years.

The operation, led by Dr. Gerardo Delgado Valle, gynecologic oncologist, and Dr. Norato Vasquez Pintado, resident in the gynecology department, appeared to be a difficult technical and medical task. The team faced the task of removing an ovarian tumor of unusual size, the presence of which was previously confirmed by an ultrasound examination conducted in the hospital’s outpatient clinic.

In the operating room, the surgeon performed an exploratory laparotomy – a procedure that allows for a detailed examination of the organs of the abdominal cavity. During the intervention, they managed to successfully remove the said tumor. The sample was immediately sent to the pathology department for extensive analysis, the final results of which will be available in about two weeks.

The operation was without complications, demonstrating the experience and professionalism of the medical team at the Hippolyte Unanue National Hospital. After the intervention, Maria was transferred to ward B-2 for post-operative recovery.

This case highlights the hospital’s ability to handle complex cases and the importance of early detection of health problems. In addition, he emphasizes the commitment of the Ministry of Health and the National Hospital Hipolito Unanue in providing quality medical care to the population, even in situations that require very complex interventions.
