Who was Raimundo de Peñafort?
The patron saint of jurists, he was born in Peñafort, Spain, in 1175. Throughout his life, he was distinguished by unshakable faith. and showed great interest in the study of philosophy and law.
He eventually became the third Master General of the Order of Preachers; He was also a personal adviser to Pope Gregory IX. and a great friend of Jaime I the Conqueror.
Peñafort is recognized by many not only for being called a canon in Barcelona, but also for having written the Summa Juris Canonici and the Summa de casibus poenitentiae, two works for members of the Dominican order to be able to hear confession properly.
In addition, during the years of his leadership, he mainly focused his efforts on the spread of Christian teachings and the word of God, thereby made a significant contribution to pastoral work.
However, due to illness, he was forced to resign and return to his native place. where he established two more evangelistic institutions.
Finally, he died in his homeland on January 6, 1275, so his body was taken to Barcelona Cathedral and He was canonized as the patron saint of Catholic lawyers.
