Serbia congratulates Maduro and highly appreciates his defense of international law in the Kosovo issue

Zagreb, January 11 (EFE). – Serbia, a candidate country for the European Union (EU), congratulated Nicolás Maduro on his inauguration as president of Venezuela and thanked him for “respecting international law” for not recognizing the sovereignty of Kosovo, a former Serbian province that became independent in unilaterally in 2008.

Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic was one of the few international representatives to attend Friday’s inauguration ceremony in Caracas as a special envoy of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

“The president of the parliament congratulated Maduro and handed him a message from the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in which he emphasized the importance of strengthening the political dialogue and deepening cooperation between Serbia and Venezuela and the further development of friendly relations.” reported in the statement.

In turn, Maduro emphasized that he considers Vucic a great friend of Venezuela.

Serbian news agency Beta reports that Brnabic on Friday emphasized Belgrade’s gratitude that Venezuela respects international law and continues to consider Kosovo a part of Serbia.

The US, the EU and a number of Latin American countries deny the legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro’s inauguration.

Maduro was sworn in before Venezuela’s Chavismo-controlled parliament as president for the 2025-2031 period, despite complaints of election fraud by the opposition bloc and much of the international community. EFE
