Tennessee’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.1% between July and August – Clarksville Online

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, Tennessee – Tennessee’s unemployment rate remained at a seasonally adjusted low of 3.1% in August 2023, according to new data released by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD). The state hit its lowest unemployment rate in July, surpassing the previous record of 3.2%.

The new jobless rate was 0.2 percentage points below the statewide rate from August 2022. As of January 2022, the state’s unemployment rate was at or below 3.5%.

The data show that in the period from July to August, the number of non-agricultural jobs decreased by 3,200 people. The largest job losses were in the mining, logging and construction industries. The professional and business services sector experienced the next big drop, followed by the information sector.

Statistics from last year show that Tennessee employers added 57,900 new jobs to their payrolls. The highest growth over the past 12 months was recorded in the sphere of education and health care. The most significant increase in employment occurred in the leisure and hospitality sector, as well as in the public sector.

In August, unemployment in the country increased. The new seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is 0.3 percentage points higher than July’s unemployment rate.
