The Minister of Agrarian Development declares that he is conducting negotiations on the provision of land for agrarian reform with the leadership of regions and Valais

The Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, Paulo Teixeira, said this Monday (December 11, 2023) that the federal government is committed to permanently resettling families from the MST (Movement of Landless Rural Workers) in Paraupebas, Pennsylvania. On Saturday (December 9), a fire in the camp killed 9 people. According to the movement, about 3,000 settlers live there.

Teixeira had been monitoring the situation in Paro since Sunday (December 10) and was close to the victims. This Monday (December 11), the minister announced that regional leaders and representatives of Valais will analyze the possibility of providing land for agrarian reform.

“Together with the president of Incra (National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform) We have already started the registration of all the families in this camp and we are going to carry out the land management process so that everyone who wants can be settled there.”– said the minister.

In addition to Incra president Cesar Aldriguez, who is accompanying Teixeira on the trip, the mayor of Parahuapebas Darci Lermen (MDB-PA), the federal MP Keniston Braga (MDB-PA) and the state deputy of Misias from the MST (MDB-PA) also participated in the meeting (PT -CE).

“We will continue negotiations on the settlement of these families. Last week we spoke with President Vallée to find a solution to resettle these families. The Government of Paro will be represented and the Mayor of Parohuapebas will oversee the work”Teixeira said on his Instagram on Sunday (December 10).
